Switchfoot – Vice Verses
Vice Verses is Switchfoot’s 8th CD release (9 if you count “The Best Yet” a combination of their best songs). If you haven’t heard of Switchfoot well, then you should, they are awesome. The band consists of 5 members: Jon Foreman – lead vocals & guitar, his little brother, Tim Foreman – bass & vocals, Chad Butler – drums, Jerome Fontamillas – keyboards, guitar and vocals, and DrewShirley – guitar. They come from beautiful San Diego, California. Their music falls under the genre of rock but not all of their songs are rock songs. They have some slower and usually more serious melodies that are beautiful and really make a point, as most of their songs do. The way the arrange the melody of their music with the lyrics…I don’t really know how to describe it…it’s…well it’s awesome, you just need to listen to it. A lot of their songs are so catchy that they get stuck inside my head, which I love! Anyway I should get on the reviewing part….

So is Vice Verses, Switchfoot’s best CD yet? I don’t know if I would say that, mainly because I’m an indecisive person and it’s hard for me to choose a favorite. But I would say that would be among one of their top albums. Switchfoot is like a fine wine I guess, they just keep getting better with age. They started out with an amazing CD and keep producing more amazing ones. I never worry about them having to call it quits because their music is degrading. The CD consists of 12 awesome songs. Afterlife, the first song you hear when you pop in the CD (as long it isn’t on shuffle). Afterlife talks about how we need to live out life out (for Christ) now and not later. ‘Cuz why wait till the afterlife? There won’t be a need for us to live our lives out for Christ after we die, by then it’s too late. Part of the chorus goes like this: And I wonder why/would I wait till I die/to come alive?/I’m ready now/I’m not waiting for the afterlife. Christ commanded his followers to act now (Mark 16:15) not later, there won’t be a need later. Another lyric goes like: I still believe we can live forever. Do you believe that? I do. I believe that whether you believe in God or not you will still live forever, but it’s just a matter of where. I know where I’ll be living forever. Just some food for thought.
Blinding Light, here’s my interpretation of this song and I hope it makes sense. It’s a song of encouragement. He says (in different bridges): Hey boy, don’t believe ‘em/everything that they told you to. Hey Girl, be yourself now/your skin is more than a pin-up suit. You’re a strong one/but none of us are bullet proof. Chorus: Still looking for the blinding light/Still looking for the reason why/Still looking for the sun to shine/Take me higher and higher/All my life I've been living in the darkest night/Still looking for the sun to shine and take me higher and higher. We’re all told things, expected to be things, etc. by the world but somehow we know that can’t be it, we’re looking, searching for the blinding light, but as we’re searching we’re still stuck in the dark(est night). Christ is the light; in John 14:6 He says “I am the way, the truth and the light.” He is the light, the brightest light, and more than likely brighter than the sun. I hope that makes sense, if it doesn’t, email me and I will try to clarify it for you.
Well there are still 10 more songs that you don’t have my review/opinion/interpretation on so go buy it or download it or whatever (just make sure it’s legal) and form your own. It’s a great way to support this totally awesome band!
